When Jackie and Mike first reached out to set up their engagement session, they were having some trouble narrowing down a location. She wanted something mountainy without the hour plus drive in traffic. They ended up choosing Lookout Mountain in Golden, as Jackie wanted a beautiful, woodsy feel to act as a contrast between their more formal outfits. We had booked the date over a month in advance, not knowing what the day would bring. I think you probably know where this is going.

When the day finally arrived, it was cold and rainy... incredibly cold for what had been a beautiful May in Colorado. The fog on Lookout was very intense and thick. Jackie was a bit worried, but I encouraged them to push forward with the shoot and explained that it would turn out gorgeous in photos. I’ve never shot in fog (there’s a whole ‘nother post that needs to be written in regards to ‘lessons learned’), but I was really excited to create something different. I honestly had no idea what was going to happen with the shoot, but some of my best images are made when conditions can be less than ideal. I think this proves that there can be incredible beauty in the unknown. Create anyway!

After playing in the thick fog, we drove down the mountain and got some beautiful (fogless) shots near downtown Golden.
